Blue Pottery
Jaipur, Rajasthan, North India
Ramu Prajapati is a third-generation Blue Pottery artisan from Jaipur, Rajasthan. He learned the craft from his father at age ten and has been perfecting it for over thirty years.
The Story
Blue Pottery is not made from clay — it is made from a unique dough of quartz stone powder, powdered glass, Multani mitti (Fuller's earth), borax, gum, and water. Ramu's family has kept this tradition alive through generations of British colonial disruption and modern mass production. Each piece he creates takes three days to finish, and no two pieces are ever identical. Ramu's workshop in the old city employs twelve local artisans, many of whom he personally trained.
